Pembroke Tobacco Store Clerk Defends Herself from Armed Robber
The small Southern North Carolina town of Pembroke is in the news today following an attempted robbery of a tobacco store that saw a woman behind the counter take matters into her own hands and defend herself against a criminal who had a gun in her face.
The incident in question occurred at around 9:00 PM on Monday night. It happened at the Country Tobacco Oasis store at 2765 Prospect Road where according to an eyewitness account, a man dressed in a black and camo colored mask entered the store.
Immediately upon entering the store the masked man produced a handgun that he was carrying and pointed at the female clerk who was on duty at the shop that night, demanding the register.
The clerk who was working that night has not yet had her name released to the public, but what is known are the actions she took following the shock of an attempted robbery.
The woman told the thief that she did not have any money in the register, but proceeded rather, to reach for her concealed handgun.
Once the woman had a hold of her firearm she decided to act quickly and pointed it at the robber. This caused the masked assailant to run off into the night.
According to eyewitness accounts, the woman who was on duty followed the man to the store’s entrance and as he was running off, fired three warning shots to make sure the criminal knew she was not playing around.
As of the time of the writing of this article, there has not yet been an arrest in the incident and those of you with any information regarding it are encouraged to call the authorities at 910-671-3100.
What do you think of this incident? Would you have done the same thing in order to survive, should you be pushed into this scenario or would you have acted differently? Let us know in the comments below.
Congratulations to the woman who handled herself so well during such a high stress moment. I don’t understand why she shot the warning shots since the man was running off. If she had hit him running off, while there was no imminent threat, she would probably find herself in jail. But I think it wonderful she was able to handle herself so well during the incident.
