Ex-Boyfriend Who Ignored Restraining Order Shot in Self-Defense

This story out of the border road of Polk County is a textbook case of actions speaking louder than words.

Joshua Cuthbertson had just gone through a break-up with his now ex-girlfriend and things ended far from well. Cuthbertson had recently been issued a restraining order against his ex-girlfriend, and it was her hope that this court order would be enough for her to see the end of Cuthbertson. However, this was not the case.

Armed with a baseball bat, a can of gasoline, and a mind set on violence Joshua Cuthbertson arrived at his ex-girlfriend’s (whose name has not been released) home.

According to reports from Polk County Police it was at this point that the dogs of the property alerted Cuthbertson’s ex-girlfriend as well as a yet unidentified man to the presence of someone at her home.

At this point, the man of the home, armed himself with a firearm went outside to check on what was making the dogs react so strongly.

According to the man’s report to police he then smelled a strong aroma of gasoline in the air and began to look around. Moments later he saw Cuthbertson who was attempting to hide behind his vehicle.

As soon as Cuthbertson knew that he was found out, he charged at the man with his baseball bat. A fight then ensued, Cuthbertson hitting the man in the head several times with the bat.

However, keeping alert throughout the barrage the unnamed man managed to produce his firearm and fire true into Cuthbertson, several times.

This action dropped Cuthbertson, and his ex-girlfriend as well as the defensive shooter managed to keep Cuthbertson alive until authorities arrived. Taking Cuthbertson to Spartanburg Hospital where he will remain until his several gunshot wounds heal. Following that, he will likely be heading to jail for violation of his restraining order as well as the assault of the shooter. Who himself will not be facing any charges for what the local police have deemed as a self-defense shooting.
