Lewisville, the small town 25 miles west of Greensboro was the host to an incident that many times would have been a tragedy, a home break-in. However, this home had a line of defense that not even the residents knew of: Their neighbor and his trusty firearm.
Forsyth County authorities were called to the Lewisville home at 2:30 in the morning on Sunday, after they had received a call regarding the break-in. When they arrived on the scene, they saw the intruder, 23-year-old Horace Wayne Vanlue Jr. dead on the home’s floor.
According to reports given to the police from the members of the household, the shooter, whose name has not been released for safety reasons, saw several men break into the Lewisville home and upon hearing a struggle from inside, came running over with his firearm and began to shoot at those who were invading. At that point, several of the home invaders ran off and their comrade whom they left behind laid down on the floor dying from a gunshot wound.
According to the homeowners, the men who had entered the house were assaulting them and attempting to steal items, but the neighborly shooter stopped them cold with this defensive gun use.
At this point, there are no indications from police that there will be charges against the shooter who helped out his neighbors. However, at this point the investigation is ongoing.
The investigation is also ongoing for those other attempted burglars who had run off after the shots had been fired. Anyone with information regarding this shooting can call the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office at (336) 727-2112 or (336) 727-2800
